Frequently asked questions
How do moving crate rentals work?
You book online in about two minutes. We deliver clean, stacked crates and dollies to your current place on the morning you picked, you pack and move at your own pace, and when you are unpacked you leave the empty crates by the door at your new address. We come collect them. No assembly, no tape, no cardboard pile at the curb.
How many crates do I need?
Our packages are sized by home size and they are deliberately generous: 15 crates for a studio, 25 for a one-bedroom, 35 for a two-bedroom, 50 for a three-bedroom and 75 for four bedrooms and up. If you are between two sizes, size up. An extra ten crates costs a lot less than running out on a Saturday night.
How long do I get to keep them?
One week is the standard rental and it covers most moves comfortably. You can book two, three or four weeks up front, and you can extend mid-rental at the same weekly rate by calling or emailing us. Nobody gets penalised for needing a few more days.
Are the crates clean?
Every crate is washed and wiped down between rentals. They come to you stacked and sealed. If a crate ever shows up in a state you would not put your own linens in, tell us and we will replace it the same day.
How much weight does a crate hold?
The crates are rigid polypropylene rated for roughly 60 pounds each. In practice that is more than most people want to carry, so the honest advice is to load books and canned goods into a crate only about two-thirds full and fill the rest with linens.
Do you charge for delivery and pickup?
Delivery and pickup are quoted together as a single line on your order, and you see that number before you pay anything. There are no per-crate fees, no fuel surcharge and no charge for collecting the empties.
Can you pick up from my new address?
Yes, and that is how most moves work. The booking form has a drop-off address and a pickup address, so you just fill in both. If they are the same, leave the pickup one blank. If your new place is outside our normal service area, give us a call and we will tell you straight away whether we can make it work.
Do you carry the crates up stairs?
Standard delivery is ground level: we bring the crates to your door, your garage or your building lobby. Stairs are not included in the package price, but we are happy to carry them up or down for $5 per flight per 20 crates. Tick the stairs box when you book and the cost is added to your total before you pay, so there is no conversation about it on the doorstep.
What if I damage or lose a crate?
Normal moving scuffs are expected and never charged. Crates that are cracked, lost or badly stained are billed at $25 each and dollies at $65. Damage protection at checkout waives up to $500 of that for $10, which most people take.
Do I need to be there for delivery?
Someone needs to let us into the building, but that is it. We text a delivery window the day before and a heads-up when the driver is on the way. For pickup you can simply leave the empties inside the door or in the garage and text us that they are ready.
How far in advance should I book?
We ask for at least 48 hours notice. In practice, end-of-month weekends and the June through August stretch book out first, so a week or two ahead is safer if your date is fixed.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel more than 48 hours before your delivery window and the deposit is refunded in full. Inside 48 hours we keep the deposit, because the crates are already pulled, cleaned and loaded for you.
Do you work with moving companies and offices?
Constantly. Movers like crates because they stack tight and load fast, and offices like them because a floor of desks can be packed, moved and unpacked over a weekend without a mountain of cardboard. There is a page for business moves with the details.
